Rebates for switching to LED lighting are available across the country. Taking advantage of these programs will save you money on initial project costs and all future electric bills. Whether you are installing lights in a new construction project or an existing facility, you may be eligible for rebates on LED replacements including LED lamps (PAR, MR, A shaped standard bulbs, etc), high bay fixtures, street and parking lot lights, and fluorescent tube replacements, and more!

Utility companies offer different rebate programs unique to each state and utility provider. These programs help to lower initial costs of installing energy-efficient lighting. Rebates are available for lamps that meet the high efficiency standards of certifications such as ENERGY STAR® and Design Lights Consortium (DLC), which have standards set in compliance with the US Environmental Protection Agency.

Acquiring pre-approval from rebate programs can take 29 days, on average, in North America. Starting the process early means you're more likely to get the highest rebate available. It is best to seek approval during the planning stages of your LED installation project, before any LEDs are purchased, so you can get the best ones.These rebate programs typically have a specific amount of funds to work with, and can run out with little to no notice. LED lighting installation must be planned and scheduled in time to allow for inspections and pre-approvals, which vary from one program to the next. In some areas, depending on your utility provider, using a slightly more expensive product with more certifications could get you a greater rebate and lower your initial costs.
In 2015, Design Lights Consortium created a new category for twist-in LED bulbs that replace HID lamps. Mogul base (E39) LED's replace 150W to 1,000W HID lamps in high bay fixtures and other commercial and outdoor applications. Currently, there are only a few rebate programs available for these types of LEDs, but as other types of LED rebate programs have increased quickly, programs for HID replacements can be expected to grow as well over the next year. The average prescriptive rebate for these LED replacements is around $60 per bulb. Non-prescriptive rebate programs can negotiate a custom rate.
As LED lighting solutions are increasing in popularity, utility companies have added new rebate programs. From 2015 to 2016, rebates for LED installations nearly doubled with a 220% increase, and there are twice as many rebates available for LED fixtures as there are for LED bulbs. Different rebate programs have different requirements. Some programs are only available for LED retrofit kits or fixtures, but won't offer anything for tubes or bulbs. Other programs for LED tubes will only offer rebate for ballast-bypass tubes. Almost all rebate programs require LEDs that are compliant with the most current DLC standards.
Product Eligibility
Rebate programs will have requirements the LEDs must meet in order to qualify for the rebate funds. Requirements could include a certain wattage, shape, warranty, or listing (DLC, Energy Star, etc.).Cost Caps
Some programs are capped at a certain percentage of the cost of the project, though the program may advertise an offer of a flat rate. Other programs might offer a "up to" a specific percentage of project cost back in rebate, but that can be limited by the payback timeframe of the project.
